Diego will be presenting his paper on the first ever implementation of a baseband processor for mmWave capable of realizing optimal beamforming. Beamforming is necessary to overcome the challenges of path loss and limited antenna aperture, but practical realiztion of mmWave systems requires the ability to effectively cancel interferers in motion. This work, done jointly with Prof. Chris Rudell's group here at UW implements a Generalized Side-lobe cancellation at the front end of the baseband processor to adaptively cancel moving interferers before demodulating the signal from the desired direction of arrival.
This project represented a very substantial effort in creating the infrastructure and methodologies needed to implement a baseband processor. Stay tuned till Feb. 2022 to see the paper and presentation slides for this work. Congratulations again Diego, on a truly well-deserved outcome!
